Stay Whelmed was inspired by the life and legacy of my best friend, Ethan. What began as Ethan’s simple closing signature at the end of every card, note and letter has become so much more than just a two-word phrase. Today, it has become his lasting message to all of us and one of the greatest gifts he left behind. The world feels different without Ethan in it, but the way he lived his life continues to show us how to move forward until we see him again.

For 19 years, Ethan brought joy and light into this world that was impossible to miss. His smile could brighten any room, his laughter was contagious and his welcoming presence made everyone feel that they belonged and were loved. He loved God deeply, served others selflessly, loved his family fiercely and cherished his friends wholeheartedly. He found joy in music, LEGOs, poker nights, bonfires, Ghirardelli brownies, Andy’s ice cream runs, late-night conversations, car karaoke and the simple, quiet moments that many of us overlook. He had an extraordinary way of making ordinary moments truly unforgettable, simply because he was there. Although his time here was far too short, Ethan showed us that life is not measured by the number of years we are given, but by the love we share, the lives we touch and the light we leave behind. The greatest gift wasn’t simply knowing Ethan, it was being loved by him.

So, I ask each of you to help me carry Ethan’s legacy forward. Honor him not only by telling his story, but by living the way he did.

Buy the concert tickets.

Sing with the windows down.

Chase the sunset.

Build the LEGO set.

Go for ice cream.
